ABOUT ME

I'm a hardworking girl on the journey towards finding my dream job. I love to travel,

I care deeply about human rights and the environment, and I have a knack for working with people in any capacity. I'm a movie/TV/media buff and love to debate about any of the above with anyone willing to listen. I get overly excited about dogs, surprises and iced coffee. I love being outdoors and around my favorite people.

This essay was assigned for a Journalism course. The assignment was to interview someone on campus who, in our mind, was making a difference. I chose a fellow student, Cece Leonard, who worked with the LGBTQ community at the University of Oregon. I was so inspired by Cece's story and her outlook on life that I wanted to share my piece with as many people as possible. I loved the research process for this essay and so enjoyed working to correctly translate her spirit onto paper.

Internship Experience

In the summer of 2012, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to intern in Tel Aviv, Israel. I lived in an apartment there for two months and gained a ton of experience working at two separate intern locations.

THE JAFFA INSTITUTE:

The first was a non-profit organization called the Jaffa Institute. The organization provides resources to underprivileged youth and families in the Tel Aviv area. They host multiple programs that work against all the problems that poverty presents to Israeli citizens. The organization helps all who need it, regardless of religious or ethnic background. I worked in the fundraising department where I was able to research donation opportunities, help write grants to those individuals and groups, manage the organization’s social media accounts, coordinate volunteers, and even write an article for the organization’s blog. NEWSHOUND MEDIA:

In addition, I was offered the amazing opportunity of interning with an international media company based in Tel Aviv—Newshound Media. The company works with news stations, journalists, and reporters from around the world in order to produce stories based in the Middle East and elsewhere. HERE is a link to their website.

During my time there, I worked in the marketing department where I helped research and contact potential clients. Additionally, the Newshound team let me shadow their work on several different occasions as they were creating stories and reports from around Israel and the Palestinian territories.
